Hope Academy Announces New Fundraising Leader

Indianapolis recovery high school names longtime youth-focused nonprofit executive Jon Shapiro as its new director of fundraising and donor relations

Hope Academy High School has named Jon Shapiro as its new director of fundraising and donor relations. In this leadership role, Shapiro will set the vision and strategic direction for achieving Hope Academy’s annual fundraising goal, build upon existing fundraising streams and cultivate new relationships to enable the school to grow sustainably.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jon to the Hope Academy team,” said Rachelle Gardner, executive director of Hope Academy. “Jon has a proven track record of creating exceptional value for youth-oriented nonprofits. His extensive experience in program development and his enthusiasm for advancing Hope Academy’s mission will undoubtedly help us achieve our goals of serving more students impacted by substance use disorder.”

Previously, Shapiro was the director of programs for the Simon Youth Foundation, where he oversaw and led professional development and programming opportunities for educators and students at 44 Simon Youth Academies, including Hope Academy. Shapiro also served as the senior vice president of membership and youth services for the Jewish Community Center for five years.

“I look forward to building upon the strong foundation of giving and support Hope Academy has received from the greater Indianapolis community. As Indiana’s only recovery-focused high school, it is imperative to grow Hope Academy’s supporters amongst individuals, corporations and foundations so more teens can find success here,” Shapiro shared.

Shapiro has dedicated the last two decades of his career to serving youth and supporting educators and other professionals that help young people achieve their potential. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services Management from State University of New York Empire State College and completed leadership and enrichment training from the Jewish Community Centers of America. His first day with Hope Academy is May 9, 2022.
