Guiding Paths to Success

Connecting to the recovery community and family involvement are key to the overall success of our students. The staff at Hope Academy is dedicated to helping students and their families achieve the best outcomes in both academics and sobriety.

Hope Academy’s Guiding Paths to Success (GPS) is an alternative peer group, a peer-based, family-centered program promoting positive peer support for young people and their families struggling with substance-use disorders and self-destructive behaviors.

Within a safe and sober environment, GPS addresses the social, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of teens recovering from substance use, abuse, and dependence through peer mentoring, life and social skills development, family involvement, and sober, fun activities while providing individual, group, and family therapy.

GPS Provides:

  • After-school hangouts
  • Homework help and tutoring
  • Peer mentoring
  • Individual, group, and family therapy
  • Sober, fun social activities

This program is available for students in all surrounding districts.

The Tim Lannan GPS Fund makes much of this work possible. Established in memory of Tim Lannan, a beloved advocate for youth in recovery, this fund helps support meaningful programming, activities, and access to care for students participating in GPS. Thanks to this generous support, students experience connection, confidence, and joy throughout their recovery journey.

Student Resource Time

At Hope Academy, social connection is a key part of recovery. Our Student Resource Time (SRT)—built into the school schedule three times a week—gives students the chance to decompress, build friendships, and practice social skills in a safe, substance-free environment. Whether students are catching up on homework, sharing music, or just enjoying a moment of laughter, SRT helps foster a sense of belonging and community. These everyday moments create space for healing, growth, and connection—on and off campus.

Service Learning

Thanks to our partnership with the Simon Youth Foundation, Hope Academy students have the opportunity to take immersive field trips to learn more about our nation’s history and the impact of service. All seniors complete a capstone project that involves volunteering with a local nonprofit, then presenting what they’ve learned as part of their final project. As a school grounded in recovery values, we also encourage all students to give back through volunteerism whenever possible. These experiences help foster empathy, purpose, and a deeper connection to the community—important elements of both education and recovery.
